Keys to dealing with the Qur’an

By Dr. Salah Abdel Fattah Al-Khalidi

Dr. Salah begins this interesting book with an enjoyable tour of the names and attributes of the Holy Quran.

It also completes by explaining the urgent need to contemplate the Holy Qur’an and its meanings in order to get rid of the locks of the heart.

And possess some aspects of wisdom,

Which is only sought by those who live long with the Holy Qur’an as God wants.

In this book, the author presents keys to dealing with the Qur’an.

Which must be known and understood.

And use it to extract the treasures of the Qur’an stored in it.

That is why the author of this book, Dr. Salah Al-Khalidi, began the “Treasures of the Qur’an” series with this book “Keys to Dealing with the Qur’an” as its foundation.

The author was keen to put these keys in the hands of the people of the Qur’an, its soldiers and its bearers, so that they may recognize them, understand them, and use them in their connection to the Qur’an, their dealings with it, their taking from it, and their extraction of its treasures.

Each map also has a key that indicates its features, making it easy for people to understand it in a way that saves them effort and time.

There are also signs everywhere (school, hospital, university, ministry, park) that guide citizens to what they need with ease and convenience.

The author also provided us with guiding keys for dealing with the Holy Quran.

We mention some of these keys:
  • A comprehensive, holistic view of the Qur’an as a comprehensive book and an integrated way of life, with a realistic mission and a dynamic nature.
  • Note the scientific and dynamic mission of the Holy Quran, which was demonstrated in ( You are the best nation produced for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in God).
  • Preserving the atmosphere of the Qur’anic text, as the Qur’anic text releases latent charges of its meanings, and overflows with gushing streams of its lights that can only be seized and exposed to by those who are alert to them and interact with them.
  • Entering the world of the Holy Qur’an without any previous requirements, and entering it free from any previous distractions.
  • Absolute trust in the Qur’anic text, for it is the word of God, the absolute truth, the absolute honesty, the absolute goodness, and the absolute guidance. It is not permissible for a Muslim to doubt the texts of the Qur’an, their meanings, their provisions, and their facts, or to philosophize about their implications and suggestions, or to choose whatever he wants according to his desire.
  • Living the connotations, shades and subtleties of the text. This requires a living, discerning reader who first assumes faith. Then deals with the Qur’an in its entirety, then understands the connotations it suggests and takes refuge in the shades it contains.
  • The texts are rich in meanings and connotations, and this is perhaps one of the manifestations and images of blessing. You find the Qur’anic text few in its words, short in its expressions. But it is rich in its connotations, comprehensive in its meanings, great in its orientations, and gigantic in its suggestions.
  • Taking care of the meanings of the Holy Qur’an that the Companions lived practically, as they grew up on the Holy Qur’an, savored its verses, interacted with its texts, understood its guidance, and its lights shone upon them.
  • Freeing the Qur’anic texts from the constraints of time and place, as it is a book suitable for all times and places. The Companions accepted its texts and lived by them, and did not restrict them to themselves or limit them to themselves. The Followers accepted them and lived by them, and their Followers accepted them, and every group of scholars found in the Qur’an what they wanted.
  • Note the realistic dimension of the Qur’anic texts, as they apply to contemporary reality, address it, correct it, and reform it in a way that is good for the Muslim.
  • Good reception of the Qur’an, by bringing to mind the means of understanding and the tools of contemplation, and purifying the soul from obstacles and barriers. The Muslim must realize that understanding the Qur’an is one of God’s blessings upon him and one of God’s openings to him.
  • Recording thoughts and meanings as they come to you, because the pleasure of these thoughts may disappear as soon as a person leaves the world of the Qur’an and becomes preoccupied with the world. However, if he records them, he will feel overwhelming happiness, so he must make them one of his precious treasures.

Excerpts from the book:

The Qur’an is a spirit, and only those with a spirit will be guided by it.

- Staying in the atmosphere of the Qur’anic text and preserving it is an essential key to unlocking the treasures of the Qur’an.

The Qur’an is a comprehensive book and a complete way of life.

The Qur’an has a realistic and continuous mission.

The Qur’an will have a continuing presence and influence until God inherits the earth and all that is on it.
