idiot
Fyodor Dostoevsky
This novel is one of the most expressive examples of Dostoevsky's ability to look into the depths of the human soul, and one of the most important classics of world literature.
It is considered one of the most important European novels ever written.
The Bokklubben International Library ranked it among the 100 best literary books throughout history.
It is classified as a philosophical novel, as it looks at the consequences of placing such a unique character (the idiot) in the midst of the conflicts, desires, emotions, vanity and selfishness of society, both for the character himself and for those with him.
The fool is a prince, from a line of princes known in the history of Russia, but his character and life path are not at all like those princes who give orders and are obeyed. Rather, he is a kind, simple person, whose emotions can be aroused and influenced by simply showing tenderness or expressing need, sadness or grief, and therefore he appears to be an "idiot" in the eyes of society.
