Ibn al-Qayyim says, pointing out the importance of the family’s role in education:
“Most children are corrupted by their parents, who neglected them and failed to teach them the religious obligations and traditions. They wasted them when they were young, and did not benefit themselves, nor did they benefit their parents when they were adults.”
Some of them rebuked their son for being disobedient, saying: “O father, you were disobedient to me when I was young, so I was disobedient to you when I was old. You neglected me when I was a child, so I neglected you when I was an old man.”
The impact of the first years of life on the rest of a person’s life has been proven.
A child's sense of self comes from how you treat him.
If you make him feel that he is a “good boy” and make him feel your love, he will have the idea that he is a good and honorable person.
But if you are impatient with him, and you blame and rebuke him day and night,
And make him feel that he is (a bad boy), so his life will be full of frustration, rebellion and disobedience.
It is essential for parents to know how to respond gently and firmly to their children's feelings.
Parents should also treat their children based on certain principles. Do not praise them today for something you scolded them for doing yesterday.
Do not scold him for doing something you praised him for doing yesterday, or do something you forbid your child from doing.
