Why did sitting under the tree bother my mother? Was she afraid that I would grow roots deep in the ground and make it impossible for me to return to my father's country? Perhaps, but sometimes even roots mean nothing.
If you were like a bamboo plant, it has no affiliation. We cut off a part of its stem.. We plant it, without roots, in any land.. The stem does not stay long until new roots sprout for it.. It grows again.. In a new land.. Without a past.. Without memory.. It does not pay attention to people’s differences in calling it.. Kawayan in the Philippines.. Bamboo in Kuwait. Or bamboo in other places.
